UNTIL SUNDAY 8 AUGUST
various times, everywhere
Amsterdam has long lost its status of gay capital of Europe, regardless of what tourism representatives and city officials like to tell us (especially at this time of the year). And even the question of whether it’s still a city that’s generally good to be gay in is becoming more and more disputed. Both the city’s gay nightlife options and its tolerance levels leave room for improvement, that much is clear.
The question is now whether you see the annual Gay Pride as a) a much-needed opportunity to stand up against the above-mentioned lack of tolerance while simultaneously taking advantage of the rapid – if temporary – upgrade of the equally above-mentioned nightlife situation, or b) as an over-commercial event that tries to cover up some serious problems with a load of glitter. We’d say go for c): all of the above and also – still – a damn good party.
