Every month, millions of flyers and posters are printed to promote events around Amsterdam. They are important. They keep the flow of information moving and are part of the visual landscape of the city. However, they also have relatively short life spans. They accumulate and become waste too quickly: once the event is over, so are they. At Unfold we think it is necessary to find more sustainable ways for usage of flyers and posters. For example, it is vital to recycle them, but it is also important to prolong their lives by finding creative ways to reuse them and minimise the environmental impact they have on our beautiful city.
To kick-start this idea, Unfold presents THIS IS NOTHING NEW: POSTER/FLYER JAM SESSIONS. In recent weeks we have been collecting old flyers and posters that were accumulating in venues, cafes, agencies, print shops and offices around the city. So far we have flooded our office with thousands of them. Now, we are inviting a small group of artists to partake in a two-day collage session where these pieces of old paper will become new poster art.
Old posters +
Unfold will provide a unique atmosphere that will reunite music, drinks and abundant materials for a collective session of cutting, pasting and remixing… do it individually, in collaboration, using traditional posters formats or not… The posters created during the event will be shared with the city as a way to raise awareness of the need for sustainable and intelligent ways to use paper. It is a matter of bringing waste back to life by creative activation and re-contextualisation.
Dates, location and more juicy details will be coming soon.
