A Night in Casablanca / Bergman Rarities

Published on 5 July 2010  |  Published in Film | Written by Steven McCarron

MONDAY 5 JULY
Eye Film Instituut (Filmmuseum), 19.15

Part of Ingrid Bergman summer programme that runs through August, this evening honours Bergman’s biggest success. Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, 1943), has left an indelible mark on popular culture. Dialogues, scenes, the song ‘As Time Goes By’, Humphrey Bogart’s trenchcoat and Ingrid Bergman’s hat, have all embedded themselves in our collective memory for good. The enormous influence of Casablanca on other films and television series will be traced using key moments in the film. The EYE’s own Frédérique Flori and film critic André Waardenburg (NRC Handelsblad) will host the evening. Screenings and discussion in English.

THURSDAY 8 JULY
Eye Film Instituut (Filmmuseum), 19.15

An illustrated lecture by Jon Wengström. Rare films from the archives of the Swedish Film Institute offer behind-the-scenes glimpses of Ingrid Bergman at work and in private life. In English.
