Kikirou en de Heks
FROM WEDNESDAY 12 OCTOBER – FRIDAY 21 OCTOBER
Westergasfabriek/The Movies, various times and prices
Most film festivals that pitch up in town – and there are plenty – either forget about the kids or treat them as an afterthought. Unsurprisingly, that’s not the case with Cinekid, a festival of film and television that’s foremost for family fun during the autumn holidays. Fulfilling this role, it’s selected a host of creative animations and youth stories from around the world, targeting age groups from infants to early teens.
This edition marks the festival’s 25th anniversary, so expect a healthy dose of classics like Matilda and Kirikou and the Sorceress. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the programme is the diverse range of recent youth films from around the globe, such as New Zealand movie Boy, Danish film Lost in Africa, and South African offering Spud.
As well as a conference aimed more towards industry professionals, check out the Medialab, an educational and technological playground, perfect for kids and adults alike.
